Action Member Presents at Heritage and Memory Conference in Amsterdam

CPP4All recently funded the participation of action member Madison Leeson at the 12th Annual AHM Conference, hosted at the University of Amsterdam from June 17th-19th.

The conference, titled “Unsettling Heritage and Memory Futures: Decolonial Trajectories Between Crisis and Possibility,” brought together researchers and practitioners from across the social sciences, museum studies, and cultural history to examine the enduring impact of colonialism and imperialism on the ways in which cultural heritage is managed and protected.

Madison’s presentation, “From Imperial Protection to War-Time Governance: Decolonial Legacies and Contested Heritage in Modern Iraq,” highlighted several case studies from her recent book, Heritage and Legitimacy: Cultural Governance in Modern Iraq (Springer, 2025).
